Strawberry Fields Forever
I think I shall declare this berry week since the pick-your-own strawberries are now ready!
Okay. So I was lazy today and I called up and ordered my berries. I WILL go pick some another day though because I LOVE them! So nice to snack on. So great to freeze. So fun to bake with.
I am making shortcake today to take to a family barbecue. I'll post the recipe later if it's worthy.
I also MUST try:
Strawberries, sour cream and brown sugar!
I hear it's to die for and what a fantastically easy summer dessert.
Set out a dish of berries--make sure to leave nice green stems on them.
Add two little dishes...one with sour cream and one with dark brown sugar. (Did you know you can make your own brown sugar? We'll try that one another day!)
Dip berry, first in sour cream, then in sugar. The sugar is supposed to melt into the cream and be so, so good. Okay, so what if it's fattening. I'm not going to pretend that would deter me from trying it. Are you?
But if I was really concerned about the calories, I wonder how it would work with Splenda brown sugar and low fat sour cream?
No matter how you eat them, Flood's Berries are the best. I know they have no preservatives or growth hormones or whatever the heck some places use and they also do not use any pesticides so they are 100% good for you. After accidentally dropping a store-bought berry into the sink (and I'm not sure where it was from!), I noticed a while later it had turned white. Now, I am pretty sure the red will NOT wash out of a real red berry. Will it? Which makes me wonder just what it is we are really eating half the time and how good what they are using is for us. I know of two people--TWO without really asking--who have allergic reactions to strawberries but DO NOT have those reactions when they eat Flood's! I'm starting to see a bit of logic in the 100 mile diet so I think I need to go pick a bunch of berries for freezing.
Do you pick your own berries?
